Evan Harlan specializes in the accordion music of France, Eastern Europe, and the Americas. He is also a gifted pianist appearing in a variety of settings. Performing as a soloist or with several Boston-area groups, he creates magic with the diverse melodies of the Paris nightclub, the Gypsy wedding, and the Tango dance floor. Some of the ensembles he performs with on a regular basis are Andromeda4, Alma, and Klezperanto. Evan also works as a composer for theater (American Repertory Theater, Underground Railway Theater). His many appearances around the world have made him a household word among musicians in the know.

With violinist Ima Jonsdottir, Evan performs as La Chance, specializing in French and Continental music for restaurants and private parties. Evan is also available to perform this music as a soloist, or with a trio and larger ensembles. Demos on the

His group Andromeda4 plays eclectic original music with all of the world flavors mentioned above and more. The accordion, violin, guitar/banjo and string bass blend together with classical precision and the spirit of jazz improvisation. They were awarded the 2006 Independent Music Award for the song Norwegian Slip. And their tune Coach  was also a finalist. Demos on the

Evan also teaches in his Cambridge studio. He recently published a book of twelve fun pieces - Magic Box - that really stretch the left hand, accompanied by a play-along CD.

Women in Love is Evan’s newest project, focusing on the well-known women poets of the Roaring Twenties. To works of Edna St Vincent Millay, Sara Teasdale, Elinor Wylie and others, Evan has composed songs reflecting the romantic power of the verse in song-styles ranging from 20 & 30s Swing to bossa novas to pure ballads. Soprano Kelly Demers and flutist Fernando Brandão also bring their wealth of experience to the project, perfectly capturing the mood of each poem. Demos on CD/Music page.
